Program Overview
Truck mounted cranes — including hydraulic knuckle-boom cranes (HIAB/farana), straight-boom truck cranes (hydra cranes), and articulating cranes — combine the mobility of a truck with the lifting capability of a crane. They are widely used in construction, logistics, utilities, and heavy industry for loading/unloading, material placement, and maintenance lifts. Their mobility, versatility, and frequent operation in unstructured environments make them particularly hazardous when operated by undertrained personnel. ICLM's Truck Mounted Crane / Hydra / Farana Operation and Safety Training develops certified, competent operators for all truck-mounted lifting equipment.
Unlike fixed cranes, truck mounted cranes operate on public roads and in non-controlled environments — near overhead power lines, on uneven ground, in congested urban areas, and alongside unsuspecting members of the public. Outrigger setup on unstable ground, operating in proximity to overhead power lines, and overloading due to unfamiliarity with load chart radius effects are the primary causes of truck crane incidents.
