Program Overview

Manlifts — also known as aerial work platforms (AWPs), cherry pickers, boom lifts, and scissor lifts — are essential equipment for working at height in construction, facility maintenance, warehousing, and utilities. Despite their utility, improper operation of these machines can result in tip-overs, falls from the platform, electrocutions from overhead power lines, and crush injuries. ICLM's Manlift Operation and Safety Training provides certified, comprehensive training for all personnel who operate or work near aerial work platforms.

Regulatory bodies including OSHA, HSE, and equivalent national authorities mandate that only trained and authorized workers operate powered aerial work platforms. These machines operate in dynamic environments with variable ground conditions, overhead hazards, and wind exposure. Without proper training, even experienced workers are at risk of making errors that cause serious injury or death.

Module 01

Types of Manlifts: Scissor lifts, boom lifts (articulating, telescoping), vertical mast lifts, trailer-mounted lifts.

Module 02

Components and Controls: Platform controls, ground controls, outriggers, stabilizers, tilt sensors, and emergency descent systems.

Module 03

Pre-Operation Inspection: Walk-around checklist — tires/tracks, hydraulics, controls, safety systems, fuel/charge level, and structural integrity.

Module 04

Ground Assessment: Identifying soft ground, slopes, surface voids, drainage covers, and load-bearing capacity before positioning.

Module 05

Overhead Hazard Awareness: Identifying and maintaining safe distances from electrical lines, overhead structures, and obstructions.

Module 06

Safe Operating Procedures: Boom extension sequences, driving with platform elevated, wind speed limits, and controlled descent procedures.
