Program Overview
Confined space fatalities are among the most tragic in occupational safety - not only because the initial victim is often overcome within seconds, but because would-be rescuers frequently become victims themselves. Studies show that over 60% of confined space fatalities involve rescuers who entered without proper equipment or training. This is why ICLM's Confined Space Working and Safety Training treats every role - entrant, attendant, entry supervisor, and rescue team - with equal rigour.
A confined space is any space large enough for a worker to enter and perform work, with limited means of entry or exit, and not designed for continuous occupancy. When such spaces also contain or have the potential to contain a serious hazard - including atmospheric hazards, engulfment materials, or internal configuration hazards - they become permit-required confined spaces subject to strict regulatory controls under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146.
